Here is the mytical bird Jatayu from the Ramayana epic. When King Dasamuka, or Rawana, kidnaps Princess Dewi Sinta and takes her to his island Lanka, the Garuda bird, Jatayu, tries to save her. After a brave fight in the sky, Jatayu is killed by the evil king, falls to earth and dies. This is his single stick wayang kulit, very old and used, as you can see from the stripped part of painting here and there. An amazingly decorative piece from the Javanese tradition.
