Ganymede - red

This sculpture of Ganymede is created from a drawing by Michelangelo. Ganymede is a figure from Greek mythology. He is an handsome young man, who while minding sheep with his dog in Arcadia, is kidnapped and taken to the sky by the eagle of Jupiter. Ganymede was interpreted also as the corporeal soul. Humanists used to exhibit Ganymede in the middle of their libraries among the books to symbolize the importance of elevating ideas towards higher levels.
