Dosomuko (Rawana)


This puppet is antique and was actually used for several years in Javanese Shadow Theatre.
A very big puppet, well preserved except for few little damages at one stick and the belly, is one of the main characters of the wayang kulit performances and a “dalang” favorite.

Dosomuko, or Dasamuka or Rawana is the son of Resi Wisrawa and Dewi Sukesi, the daughter of Prabu Sumali, king of Alengka. One of the protagonist of the Ramayana epic, as an evil character, he’s well known as the enemy of Rama and the kidnapper of his wife Dewi Sinta. After twelve years in Alengka Island as a prisoner, Sinta is set free by her lover Rama and Rawana is killed.
