This puppet is antique and was actually used for several years in Javanese Shadow Theatre.

Banteng, or Water Buffalo, is a domesticated cattle found almost everywhere in Central Java and all over Southeast Asia. It’s an important resource in  rural economy and is used for many tasks, including the making of wayang kulit. No wonder then that the shadow puppet theatre included this animal in its plots. The one here represented has one single central stick, beautiful decoration, even though a little scratched by the wearing of time, and a frightful look.
